In addition to wines, the town has a varied and rich menu of typical drinks, present in the town’s parties, anniversaries, restaurants and street cuisine, with drinks and other types of drinks in the mix. However, alcohol consumption is limited to homes, bars and restaurants, as the consumption of alcoholic beverages in public spaces is prohibited in the country.

Granule con huesillo

Chilean street food has as one of its most traditional drinks a somewhat exotic-looking juice: the mixture of a type of dried peach syrup, with pieces of fruit and cooked wheat grains results in mote con huesillos .

Thanks to the preparation of the recipe, which involves infusing dried peach (huesillo) with sugar and cinnamon, the drink has a markedly sweet flavour, almost like a syrup. The peeled white wheat kernels (grain) settle to the bottom of the glass and the idea is to eat while drinking the drink.

Chilean beers

Despite being the land of wines, Chile also has some traditional beers. Originating from the city of Valdivia, the beer production center of Chile, the Kunstmann brand is one of the most popular in the region, with a diverse range of beers. You can find this beer in some supermarkets in Brazil.

One of the brand’s exclusive varieties is Torobayo beer (which bears the same name as the Valdivia neighborhood where Kunstmann’s headquarters are located), which is reddish in color and has a malty, fruity flavor.

mono glue

Also called colemono, the name means “monkey’s tail”. The drink is typical of Chilean end-of-year celebrations, made with coffee, milk, brandy, cinnamon and other spices.

The recipes are different, but the classic is to prepare the cocktail with Chilean pisco, a grape-based distillate widely consumed in the country.

Pisco

Speaking of pisco, we couldn’t help but comment something more about this distillate. Starting with a huge controversy over its origin: Chileans and Peruvians dispute the origin of the drink, which is widely spread in both countries.

Pisco is present in several classic drinks in addition to mono cola: Piscola pairs brandy with cola soft drinks, usually Coca-Cola or Pepsi, and Pisco Sour, which contains pisco, lemon and simple syrup, as well as other possible additions, such as egg whites, which can add a creamy texture to the drink.
