Last week, the INPI (National Institute of Industrial Property) granted the registration of the Geographical Indication (GI) to Linguiça Blumenau, produced in the homonymous city of Santa Catarina.
From now on, this means that the sausage produced in this municipality of the Itajaí Valley carries with it “the characteristics of the place of origin, reputation, value and identity”, thus differentiating itself from similar products available on the market.
The recognition process of the GI Linguiça Blumenau, led by Sebrae/SC, was born in 2019, when local entrepreneurs became interested in the topic and realized the importance of protecting and enhancing regional revenues.
“Having the GI registration strengthens the identity and connection of the product with the territory, which is part of the history and daily life of the community of Vale and Alto Vale in Santa Catarina”, explained Alan Claumann, head of territorial development of Sebrae /SC .
As Clausmann also stated, in a note sent to Travel by farethe title benefits producers and entrepreneurs of various segments in this region, which is home to 16 municipalities of the state, such as tourism and gastronomy.
In addition to ALBLU (Association of Productive Industries of the Language of Blumenau) and Sebrae/SC, Cidasc (Companhia Integrada de Desenvolvimento Agrícola de Santa Catarina), the State Department of Agriculture and the Municipalities of Blumenau, Gaspar, Indaial, Pomerode and Timbó.
