Yeast, butter, candied fruit and that classic essence of panettone, this is the successful recipe for the classic homemade Easter colomba. After all, everything is more special when you make it at home, right? The preparation method is simpler than you might think! The only issue that can generate doubts and difficulties is the waiting time. In order for the dough to be soft and delicious, you need to let it rest for 1 hour before baking. Then take a look at the full recipe:

Traditional homemade Easter dove

Preparation time: 1h (+1h rest)

Performance: 2 servings

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (tea) sugar
  • 1 cup (tea) warm water
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 cup (tea) softened butter
  • 1 teaspoon of panettone essence
  • 2 cups candied fruit
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Preparation method:

  1. In a bowl, mix the yeast with the sugar and water until completely dissolved.
  2. Add the egg yolks and butter and mix.
  3. Add the essence and the flour and mix with a wooden spoon until you obtain a smooth and elastic mixture.
  4. Add the candied fruit and mix.
  5. Divide the dough into 2 dove molds with a capacity of 500g each.
  6. Leave to rest for 1 hour.
  7. Bake in a preheated medium oven for 40 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. Remove from the oven, let cool, sprinkle with icing sugar using a sieve and serve.
