The case occurred in India and the manager was arrested after five people vomited blood

A restaurant in India became a police case last Tuesday (5) and the manager ended up arrested on suspicion of poisoning after customers were hospitalized for consuming dry ice, offered as a mouth freshener.

The case occurred at Café Laforestta, in the state of Haryana. According to NDTV, other people present at the time of the incident recorded some customers vomiting blood after consuming the substance. In total, five people were hospitalized and two remain hospitalized in critical condition.

“A case has been registered against the staff and owner of the restaurant. The manager of the restaurant has been arrested. Further investigation is underway,” a police officer told ANI.

The agent also said customers were given dry ice after consuming the food, offering it as a mouth freshener. In the complaint, the victims stated that they began to feel a burning sensation in their mouth and then vomited.

According to the Indian Express, Ankit Kumar told police that he, his wife and their friends were finishing eating at the restaurant when a waiter arrived at the table with packets of what they thought were traditional palate cleansers with sugar and spices.

Dry ice is the cooled, condensed form of carbon dioxide gas. Ingestion may cause frostbite, perforation of organs and suffocation.
