Cabbage cigar: find out how to make the traditional Arabic recipe

Cabbage cigar

Time: 1 hour

Performance: 12 servings

Difficulty: easy

Ingredients:

  • 12 small cabbage leaves
  • 600 g of minced meat
  • 6 tablespoons cooked brown rice
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil for seasoning

Preparation method:

  1. Heat a large pan with water until boiling.
  2. Add cabbage leaves 3 at a time and cook for 2 minutes.
  3. Repeat the process with all the cabbage and drain it.
  4. Let cool.
  5. Meanwhile, in a bowl, mix the meat and rice.
  6. Season with salt, pepper and drizzle with olive oil.
  7. Remove part of the thick leaf stem.
  8. Place a portion of meat on each cabbage leaf, fold the ends inwards and then roll up like rolls.
  9. Arrange the cigars on a baking tray and place a glass or ceramic plate on top, upside down.
  10. Cover with hot water, drizzle with olive oil and cook for 20 minutes over low heat.
  11. Carefully remove the dish, place it on a serving plate and serve immediately.
