On the one hand, cats love to bask in the rays of the warm sun, but on the other hand, they never play in the heat, and on sultry days they always find the coolest place. Indeed, the heat exchange of the little purring friends is completely different from ours.
Each cat is its own thermostat. The animal warms up or cools down, finding the most comfortable position in space. Indeed, cats cannot sweat all over their body, which cools the surface of the skin. But there are exceptions !
If the cat is cold, it curls up into a ball; if it is hot, he licks his fur and stretches out full length in a current of air (where all members of the house take turns flying towards him). The sweat glands of furry cats are slightly developed and are located on the pads of their paws, which is why in hot weather the cat’s prints on the ground may become noticeable. Interestingly, this superpower of the cat’s “heels” does not prevent its owners from calmly walking on a hot roof.
But there are cats for whom everything is different. They sweat all over their body and even… can change color under the influence of ultraviolet rays!
