Find out which are the best wines to invest in at Easter and pair them with chocolate
Easter is here and, as always, chocolates are in fashion at this time of year. And a drink that goes very well with this dessert is wine. The Le Vin Filosofia column therefore researched the labels that best harmonize with the best Easter egg chosen by Paladar.
In a blind tasting, the judges chose the Ferrero Collection egg as the best milk chocolate found in supermarkets. It has been described as the brightest, with an amazing and balanced flavour, made with good quality cocoa and the most discreet sugar.
To pair chocolate with wine, a total of 11 wines with different styles and proposals were selected.
After the evaluation, the team of wine experts chose 3 wines that pair perfectly with the sample chocolate, discover them:
Crasto Ruby Reserve – Douro, Portugal (R$ 149, at Qualimpor)
Exuberant in the glass, with lots of red fruits, powerful, with a lot of alcohol (20%) and persistent and balanced with its acidity. It brings good harmonization, due to the similarity. Wine is a little sweeter than chocolate, but the two balance on the palate and the characteristics of the wine match those of the chocolate.
Sandeman Tawny 10 years – Porto, Portugal (R$ 556, to Zahil)
From the tawny category, aged in large barrels, it brings more complex aromas of dried fruit, such as almonds and chestnuts, notes of vanilla and caramel. With 20% alcohol it is more elegant than Ruby, it manages to accompany the sweet cocoa through its body, but the aromas barely meet, suggesting that the combination could work better with chocolate and hazelnut.
Lucarelli Primitivo 2022 – Puglia, Italy (R$ 89.90, at Casa Flora)
It brings notes of very ripe red fruits, almost sweet, it is intense in aromas and on the palate, full-bodied and with soft tannins and a sensation of a lot of alcohol (13.5%). The explanation for the pairing lies in the body of the wine, which supports the chocolate, and in the sensation of sweetness on the palate of the red.
