The Italian died on April 12 after a long illness
This Monday (15th) Italy said goodbye to the designer Roberto Cavalli, a leading fashion figure of the last 50 years, who died on April 12th after a long illness, at his funeral in Florence.
The funeral wake took place at the Basilica of San Miniato al Monte, in the center of the Italian city, where the Italian’s coffin was applauded by long applause from world fashion figures, such as Toni Scervino, Leonardo Ferragamo and Sandro Fratini, as well as other personalities of the country.
The farewell of the 83-year-old designer was attended by a crowd that moved his family and friends. The coffin was covered in red roses and contained a black-and-white photo of Cavalli.
Former Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi sent a wreath of flowers in honor of the designer, who was also celebrated by the deputy mayor of Florence, Alessia Bettini, and the welfare councilor, Sara Funaro.
Also present at Cavalli’s farewell, whose burial will take place in the family chapel in the Porte Sante cemetery, were his wife Sandra Bergman Nilsson, his two former partners Silvana Giannoni and Eva Duranter, and his children Tommaso, Cristiana, Robert, Rachele and Daniele , together with little Giorgio, one year old.
In a statement, the government of the Tuscany Region recalls “the extraordinary testimony of creativity and mastery of which Cavalli was the protagonist, contributing to strengthening the role of Tuscany in the international fashion panorama”.
Born on 15 November 1940, Cavalli always maintained a strong bond with Florence, where he moved with his mother when he was still a child, after the loss of his father, kidnapped and shot by the retreating Germans on 4 July 1944.
In the Tuscan capital he founded his fashion company in the 1970s. Visionary, admirer of the female body and constantly inspired by the world of nature, the Italian designer has made animalier an everyday print. .
