Family of Jewish origin

John Mark came from a Jewish family and was born in the 1st century. Her mother was Mary of Jerusalem, who, according to tradition, was a wealthy widow and hosted the first Christians in her house at the beginning of Christianity. Some stories suggest that Saint Mark could be the young man covered by the sheet of the Horto das Oliveiras, a time in which Jesus he was arrested (Mk 14,51-52).

The house of the Last Supper

According to what some biblical scholars say, the Last Supper took place in Mark’s house. It may also have marked the time when Virgin Mary and the apostles received the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Due to these events the place was called the Cenacle, thus becoming a meeting and meeting point of the apostles and the first Christians.

The first and smallest gospel

Saint Mark, the evangelist, was a disciple of Saint Peter, in Rome, and wrote his gospel, which, although the smallest of the four evangelists, was the first. In the sacred text the saint carried out his main mission: to write and transmit the main sermons of the apostle Pedro about Jesus Christ.
