Find out what the symptoms and treatments for brain cancer are according to the Ministry of Health and the Brazilian Society of Oncological Surgery

The journalist Antero Greek died this Thursday (16), at the age of 69, due to brain cancer, which he had been treating since June 2022. According to the National Cancer Institute, this type of cancer is one of the most common among Brazilians, being in 10th place among the most common. Therefore, check what the symptoms are and how to treat this disease:




Symptoms

If you or someone you live with starts to experience any of the symptoms listed, it is worth seeing a doctor as, according to Ministry of Health and Brazilian Society of Oncological Surgery, are linked to cancer caused by brain tumors. These include: difficulty balancing, nausea, vomiting, headache, severe drowsiness, blurred vision, loss of neurological function, behavioral changes, seizures, and coma.

How to take care?

The cause of brain tumors is uncertain, according to the Ministry, as it depends on genetic factors, on a certain predisposition or exposure to elements such as lead, mercury, pesticides, arsenic, X-rays and gamma rays, on contact with diesel and solvents, which are risk products.

And, when it comes to treatment, it depends on the level of evolution the tumor is in and, consequently, the severity of the cancer, as the organization points out. However, possible solutions range from surgery to chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

If you don’t know which doctor to look for, the Ministry specifies that the team of doctors dealing with the problem is made up of neurologists, oncological surgeons, neurosurgeons and professionals such as physiotherapists, nurses, speech therapists and nutritionists to carry out the monitoring.
