The side lamps, suspended or above the mirror, are some of the options to bring more brightness and color to this environment.

8 ideas for lighting bathroom mirrors

There is no doubt that the ideas of bathroom lighting obtained through the use of mirrors are now at the center of interior design.

Before getting too carried away, however, keep in mind that the lighting of the mirror (and therefore of the sink / washbasin area) is only a part, albeit a very important one, to realize a successful bathroom lighting project.

Think of it the same way you might plan living room lighting ideas. Consider activity lighting, for shaving and makeup, as well as ambient lighting to create a relaxing atmosphere. Check out some ideas:

1. Personalize the pendants

-

You may have seen multi-strand spider pendants, which provide a touch of industrial style. Simply place the canopy – the offset may look more modern – then wrap each wire around the hooks and adjust it to the perfect height.

Be careful to adhere to safety ratings, making sure they are pending at least 60 cm apart sink and tub faucets. Also make sure the parts are suitable for humid environments.

2. Attach the lights directly to the mirror

-

Placing wall lamps on a mirrored glass panel is a simple and effective way to achieve a sleek, contemporary look for your bathroom.

The mirrored glass reflects the shape of an elegant wall lamp, doubling its design appeal. Look for accessories with sculptural shapes.

3. Complement of accessories

-

The houses of the time did not have internal bathrooms, much less electric lighting! But luckily, there are plenty of tradition-inspired designs that will look authentic from old properties. Luminaires with ball joints and applique-like shapes are a good choice.

4. Diffuse the light

A bathroom with two sinks and two mirrors.

“If you have two mirrors and two basins very close together, add an extra light in the middle to diffuse the light without overdoing it,” says Ian Cameron, creative director of the Empty State lighting brand.

“It could be in the form of wall lamps or perhaps a trio of pendant lamps.”

5. Buy a mirror with built-in lighting

-

Illuminated mirrors with integrated LEDs offer an elegant design solution. From an installation standpoint, the lighted mirrors are designed to attach to your regular lighting ring.

“Bathroom mirrors with built-in lighting not only provide great lighting for looking at your reflection, they also help combat the glare that sometimes reflects when you install separate lights,” adds Trinity Owhe, design expert, Victorian Plumbing.

6. Choose charms for a simple retro fit

-

“You can hang the icicles from the ceiling next to the mirror, so they double as wall lamps,” says David Amos, CEO of Amos Lighting + Home. “Pendants worn this way are also an elegant choice, as they provide a beautiful mirror-framing aesthetic,” adds David.

7. Make the lighting part of the furniture

-

Many bathroom furniture collections include recessed lighting perfectly positioned above the mirror.

To apply makeup, aim for 4800-5000K lamps, which is considered the best for more natural results. If you’d rather see a healthy glow when looking in the mirror, aim for 2700K.

Above all, avoid cold white LEDs, above 5000K. This will make the skin pale no matter how much redness you apply.

8. Place the wall lights on both sides of the mirror

-

There is nothing wrong with the lights above the mirror as long as they are close enough to the wall. This ensures that you don’t obscure them with your head when you bend over.

But for optimal face lighting, no dark circles or five-hour shadows, side mirrors they are the way forward.

“Activity lighting in the bathroom sink area is really about face lighting,” says Sally Storey, creative director of John Cullen Lighting.
