Find out how to avoid migraines and enjoy Festa Junina dishes

The typical dishes of the Festas Juninas can aggravate migraine attacks in those who already suffer from the problem. Find out which foods to avoid

The month of June is among the tastiest times of the year thanks to the Festa Junina and its typical dishes. Hominy, pine nuts, cornmeal cake and quentão are just some of the many delicacies that fill the tables of the fair. However, these and other foods can be a trigger for migraine attacks, especially for those who already suffer from the problem.

The neurologist specializing in headaches and migraines, Thaís Villa, emphasizes that migraines are not the consequence of a specific food, but of a neurological disease with hereditary causes.

“However, foods can be triggers of attacks and even be substances that worsen the disease in people who already suffer from migraines,” explains the specialist.

The neurologist points out some typical dishes that can trigger migraine attacks. Watch:

  • Dishes based on ginger, a root that has the same effect as cinnamon;
  • Alcoholic beverages, such as mulled wine and mulled wine;
  • Mustard condiments, which contain turmeric, a stimulant that can make migraines worse;
  • Chocolate, as people who suffer from migraines, at any age, should avoid anything that contains cocoa in the preparation.

According to the doctor, it is possible to enjoy the celebrations by avoiding the above foods and alcoholic beverages in all situations.

“Corn, peanuts, popcorn, tamales without cinnamon, hot dogs without mustard… there are many food options that can be consumed during the June holidays and which are not triggering or worsening factors for migraines. Just choose what to eat to enjoy the holidays of the mind in complete tranquility and without pain”, concludes the neurologist.
