Molkerei Gebrüder Pfund, active for 144 years, was named the most beautiful dairy in the world by the Guinness Book
A dairy has become a tourist attraction in Germany thanks to its beautiful structure, which earned it the title of “most beautiful dairy in the world” in 1998, by the Guinness Book. Since then the point has been part of the itineraries around Dresden, which is two hours from the capital Berlin.
The Molkerei Gebrüder Pfund shop was opened by the Pfund brothers in 1892 and is covered in hand-painted tiles from floor to ceiling. Dairy production, in turn, began in 1880. The factory suffered a decline during World War II, but by some miracle the trade structure remained intact after the conflict. Currently the brothers’ heirs do not manage the shop, which is in the hands of an entrepreneur from Dresden.
The factory sells dairy products, such as fresh milk and cheese, but also other regional products: chocolates, sweets, jellies, liqueurs and even decorative objects. A good option is to stop there and order one of the cheese platters to enjoy while admiring the tiles. Although it doesn’t have the same appeal, Molkerei Gebrüder Pfund also has an online shop, which only delivers within Germany.
The shop is open from Monday to Saturday, from 10:00 to 18:00.
Starting from Berlinthe best way to get there Dresden It’s by train or car – both take about two hours to travel. You can make a round trip from the capital or even use Dresden as a strategic stop on a trip to Prague, in Czech Republic.
