Is thinning shampoo really better for your hair? Myth or truth?

It’s not just about economics: a hair medicine specialist guarantees that the benefits go beyond the pocketbook

Everyone already knows that things are getting more expensive every day. But what about when we buy a product, a cosmetic, a shampoo or a particular soap, who has never thought of diluting it to make it work and last even longer? Will it lose its effectiveness? Or could it be interesting not only from an economic point of view?

The hair medicine specialist Patricia Marques I guarantee it’s good, yes.

“When we apply shampoo directly to the scalp, the product only comes into contact with a small area, which can cause dry hair. What we spread, in fact, is the foam, which also has active ingredients, but in smaller quantities, therefore diluting the shampoo in water and applying it on the hair makes the surface of the scalp that comes into contact with these active ingredients larger. , that is, washing becomes more efficient,” he explains.

According to the expert, diluting the shampoo is recommended for all hair types because it does not interfere with the formula.

The ideal is to dilute immediately, for this you can use a small bowl, preferably made of ceramic, otherwise it can be made of another material such as stainless steel or acrylic, always being careful not to slip, fall and break.

There is no exact proportion, it would be more or less one to one, that is, one part shampoo and another equal part water, until a very fluid product is obtained. You can mix it with your hands or with the help of a brush and then simply apply it to the scalp, massaging it and spreading it well.

“This makes cleaning more effective because we generally end up spreading foam and the amount of active ingredients in the foam is less. In this way, by using diluted shampoo, the active ingredients have greater contact with the scalp, so contrary to what one might think, the effectiveness of the product increases because we distribute it more,” she reveals.

Patrícia Marques concludes by saying that the shampoo was created to be used with water, naturally we already dilute it a little when we apply it to wet hair, so increasing this dilution only helps to better distribute the active ingredients on the scalp and not just the foam .

A quantity equal to a coin diluted in water is sufficient for an economical and even more effective wash.
