Experts give general and specific advice for each age and skin type to choose the best face masks on the market
To the face masks they have already entered the skincare routine of many people, bringing benefits to all skin types, especially in terms of hydration. According to Dr. Ana Paula Fucci, Ordinary Member of the Brazilian Society of Dermatology (SBD), even oily skin needs to be hydrated, even with less powerful substances in this sense.
But how to choose the best face masks on the market? After all, there are currently several types of them. “Some masks act to cleanse the skin, others hydrate it, still others help in anti-aging treatment, causing its renewal. There are also masks with a temporary tightening effect and lifting effect”, explains the specialist.
It is worth remembering that, to start using these products, you must always have the advice of a dermatologist, both regarding the need for use, its frequency and the type of mask best suited to your case. However, some more general tips can help you know which type might be best for you.
Advice on choosing face masks
First of all, Dr. Fernanda Aragão, dermatologist at AClinic, in Belo Horizonte (MG), recommends not using homemade masks. “They have a higher risk of irritation and contamination,” she explains. Additionally, you need to carefully look for the ones that provide the benefits you are looking for and research to find out if they really meet them.
Not to mention that, depending on your age or skin type, you may need to pay a little more attention. Teenagers and people with oily skin, for example, should be careful with some products. “These individuals should avoid products that can increase the appearance of blackheads and whiteheads,” warns Dr. Fernanda.
For the elderly or people with sensitive skin, it is important to pay attention to possible allergies and irritations. It is best to avoid using products that are more likely to cause this problem and to discontinue use immediately if any signs appear.
Still on skin types, Dr. Franklin Veríssimo comments that each type of facial mask brings greater benefits to one of them. “For oily skin, clay masks are excellent: they help control greasiness, cleanse deeply and reduce the appearance of enlarged pores,” says he, a medical specialist and graduate in Laser, Cosmetics and Procedures at the Hospital Albert Einstein -SP.
Dry skin, in turn, requires active ingredients that provide deeper hydration, such as hyaluronic acid. “For normal skin, detoxifying, antioxidant-rich masks invigorate the skin and work to prevent aging,” he adds.
Finally, the doctor reminds us that the ideal is to always ask an expert’s opinion on which face masks are best suited to you specifically.
