Agency targeting single women cancels trips and causes losses of up to R$10,000, customers say

Despite the cancellations, Single Trips continues to sell packages and claims “internal reasons” for the victims

Marketing manager Juliana* (not her real name) was due to return this week from a trip to Peru, given to her by her mother. But, two days before leaving Sao Paulo for the other country, she received a message from the agency informing him that the trip had been cancelled. The company cited “internal reasons”.

“I tried to contact the person who kept talking to me, but he didn’t answer. Then I went to the ‘Reclame Aqui’ site, and I started to see that, in the last few weeks, there are recordings in a an absurd number of people saying trips were being canceled 24 hours before, 30 hours before the trip“, account.

Juliana had to rush to cancel the flight, which had been purchased separately. The start of the trip was scheduled for the 8th of this month and it costs R $ 10 thousand for Single Trips, tour company focused on single women. The business proposition is that women who are not in a relationship travel in a group, sharing a room and making friends.

According to the contract, the company still has time to send the refund, according to Paula*, another Single Trips customer, who also had her trip rescheduled at the last minute.

In retirement, Paula was a forensic analyst and, therefore, has a greater legal understanding of the case. She and Juliana learned of each other’s stories after a Facebook post exposing the situation. Now I am in a group with two other women who fear they have been victims of a scam. “There is no crime yet because it has not been consolidated. They are within the deadline, it could be that next week they will reimburse the money”, underlines Paula.

What pushed the two to choose to expose the situation, however, was the modus operandi of the agency, which continues to advertise packages on social media, deletes comments asking for refunds and does not respond to customers whose trips have been cancelled.

“The next day I tried to get in touch. Nobody responded to me, didn’t reply to me, didn’t do anything. Then a friend of mine contacted them on Instagram, as if we wanted to buy a package. And they said, so let’s get in touch in contact with you, we give you your cell phone. Then they called me”, says Juliana.

The same happened with Paula. Close to the travel date, she failed to return to the agency with confirmation of her trip to São Luís, Maranhão. She then asked her daughter to get in touch asking for “information”, to which she soon received a response.

“Three days before they sent me the guide’s name, the flight number, which is a generic number, instructions on what to take, what to do. I thought, ‘Well, it’s closed, so there will be a tour'” , recalls the pensioner. Paula left Niterói (RJ) for São Paulo, where she would embark for São Luís. She paid for a night in a hotel in the capital of Sao Paulo, from where she received a cancellation message the night before the trip. Your the loss is approximately R$8 thousandconsidering the package and the cost of going there and staying one night in Sao Paulo.

On the website Proclaim yourself here, most complaints against the company are recent. Over the course of the last year, Viaggi Single has received nine complaints on the platform, while in the last six months there have been 22. In the last seven days alone, 15 complaints have been submitted. “Cancellation 9 hours before departure” and “Trip canceled 8 hours before flight” are some of the complaint titles.

“People go to the agency and it’s closed. And the people in the building say, ‘No, they closed the agency. There’s been no one there for more than 20 days,'” Juliana reports.

Despite the cancellations, the agency continues to announce new travel packages

After her friend gave her the agency’s contact details, thinking they were offering a package to a new client, Juliana managed to ask the agent for explanations. She would have told him the company experiences “financial difficulties” after the death of its founder.

Both Paula and Juliana said they are taking the matter to court. The second even made his decision open a police report when he saw the number of complaints against the company, he was afraid of taking a hit. The bulletin was opened to the Civil Police of São Paulo.

When questioned about the report, the State Secretariat of Public Security reported that the case had been registered as embezzlement at the Electronic Police Headquarters. “As this is a conditional prosecution, the victim has been advised to report to the police district responsible for the area of the incident, to offer criminal representation to begin the investigation,” reads the note sent.

OR Earth He tried to contact the Single Trips agency via WhatsApp and had no response. The reporter also tried to call the landline number communicated by the company, but no one answered. The space remains open.
