First, you should consider space issues and the variety of strawberry plants you want to grow.

Space-saving solutions such as vases and containers hanging from the ceiling, are great options. Whole areas of a home or just a windowsill can also be devoted to an indoor vegetable garden, but make sure you don’t over-tighten the plants so they don’t become susceptible to disease or mold problems.

The key ingredient for growing strawberry plants, of course, is sun exposure. Both indoors and outdoors, they need at least six hours of sunshine a daywhich can be provided by exposure to the sun or the use of artificial lighting.

A great culture is wild strawberries or wild strawberrieswhich maintains a more crowded facility rather than dispersed – a good thing if you have space issues.

You can also plant strawberries from seeds. If so, freeze the seeds for two to four weeks to start the germination process.

How to take care of strawberry plants

-

Strawberries have a very superficial root system and can therefore be planted in almost anything as long as the soil, water and light are adequate. Strawberries in pots (or outside) require a soil pH of 5.6-6.3.

-

A controlled release fertilizer is recommended despite the depth of the strawberry container, or once a month with a standard potassium-rich fertilizer until flowering. When the strawberries begin to bloom, fertilize every 10 days until the end of the harvest.

Before planting strawberries, remove the stolons (small aerial stems), cut off old or dead leaves and cut the roots to 10-12.5 cm. Soak the roots for an hour and then plant the strawberry so that the crown is flush with the soil surface and the root system spreads out.

Also, when growing strawberries indoors, you should remove the flowers within the first six weeks after planting. This allows the plant to establish itself before spending its energy on fruit production.

-

Growing strawberry plants indoors should be checked daily for water needs. At this frequency until the growing season and then only when the top 2.5 cm is dry. Keep in mind that strawberries love water, but not too much.
