According to the professional, regular physical activity, whether in the gym or outdoors, can help improve all the symptoms of the menstrual cycle. Therefore, it is advisable to maintain the exercise routine during this period.

“There is an increase in endorphin production, a reduction in pain, anxiety, PMS, and even a reduction in menstrual bleeding itself, which is why it is such a good idea to exercise during your period,” she explains.

“Today there are pads, collection cups, absorbent panties, all trying to promote greater comfort for the woman during the menstrual cycle,” she adds.

Despite the benefits of training for menstrual cycle symptoms, Natacha stresses that it is important to respect the body’s signals and adjust the intensity of the exercises as needed. “There is nothing to prevent you from doing it, unless the discomfort caused by menstruation itself prevents you from exercising.”

The doctor also reminds that the menstrual cycle is divided into phases, and each of them can affect mood and physical performance differently. For example, in the follicular phase, which occurs before ovulation, many women report feeling more energetic, making it a good time to intensify their workouts. In the luteal phase, after ovulation, the body may require more rest.

“What often happens is that in the premenstrual period the woman has a slightly lower performance. So, if during the cycle she has no pain, no cramps, a moderate blood flow, she has a better performance than in the premenstrual period”, he concludes.
