Nutritionist says food can be an ally in weight loss

Beans are a traditional food in Brazilians’ daily meals, especially for lunch. However, many people have the habit of eating dinner at home every day and are not sure if they can include it in their plate at night. Is it bad for you? Does it make you fat?

According to nutritionist Joice Machado Siqueira, although many people eliminate beans when they want to diet to lose weight, they can be an ally.

“Beans help in the process of weight loss, since they are a food rich in fiber, which helps to satiate. They also contain plant-based proteins, iron, B vitamins, minerals and carbohydrates, in other words, a very nutritious food,” he explains.

The recommended daily amount is one medium scoop per day, preferably at lunch. “Because at night, the metabolism is a little slower, which can make it difficult to digest the cereal and cause discomfort,” he adds.

Despite the benefits mentioned, the professional emphasizes that it is necessary to pay attention to the preparation method, avoiding high-calorie ingredients such as bacon, sausage and pork rinds, and it is preferable to season with natural ingredients such as garlic, onion, parsley and bay leaves.

“It is also recommended to immerse yourself for 8 to 12 hours and change the water at least once, to eliminate antinutritional substances, which reduce the absorption of nutrients and cause discomfort such as flatulence and abdominal swelling”, concludes the nutritionist.
