Find out how this hydration-focused technique can help your skincare routine
We constantly hear news on the Internet, especially in the health and beauty industry. And one trend that has become popular on social media is skin flooding, a technique that combines gentle cleansing, hydrating toner and two moisturizers and is highly recommended for those with dry skin who want to hydrate it. According to the dermatologist Ana Maria Pellegrinimember of the Brazilian Society of Dermatology (SBD), the treatment works.
“If your skin is dry or very dry, a skin wash can be very effective, as this type of skin care focuses on hydrating the skin at all stages,” says the doctor.
Although the technique can be performed by anyone, given the emphasis on skin hydration, according to the expert it is more important for people with dry skin. In case of skin flooding, the first step is to clean the skin with gentle products.
“Gentle skin cleansing removes impurities without damaging the skin or interfering with its physiological balance. These gentle products are formulated to ensure excellent hygiene while maintaining the protective barrier of the stratum corneum, which does not damage hydration,” explains the doctor.
“It’s a good idea to opt for gentle, non-comedogenic cleansing products, which are essential to avoid irritation.”
After cleansing your skin, the second step is to apply a layer of hydrating toner, which balances your face’s pH and leaves your skin feeling even clearer. Ana Maria Pellegrini adds, “These hydrating toners can help reduce skin irritation since they are made with soothing ingredients like aloe vera and chamomile. Hyaluronic acid, allantoin, and panthenol are also some of the most common active ingredients in their formulas.”
The next step is to use a hyaluronic acid serum, as this ingredient keeps the skin firm and hydrated, preventing sagging and helping to retain more moisture in the skin. And finally, when the skin becomes saggy, you need to apply a thick moisturizer to your face, preferably a cream. Ana warns: “The technique can have 4 steps, but the products should be applied in order from thinnest to thickest. Also, it is important to wait for the product to be fully absorbed into the face after each step before proceeding,” she explains.
“As we can see, the focus of skin flooding is the extreme concern for the hydration of our skin. With well-hydrated skin we can prevent several problems such as dryness and flaking. We can also prevent the signs of aging and help control shine and oiliness.”
The end result, according to the doctor, is a natural improvement in the skin. However, it is essential to be aware of the care required when adding a product to your skincare routine. “I recommend seeking the advice of a professional who can help you identify which products are suitable for your skin type and which should be avoided to ensure that your skin remains healthy,” says the doctor.
High hydration in the office
According to the doctor, today there are techniques known as in-office skincare that can also improve hydration. One of these is Jet Peel, a system that uses high-pressure jets to promote lymphatic massage, deep cleansing and exfoliation of the skin.
“Furthermore, the jets open microchannels that allow the penetration of the active ingredients, released by the device in the form of microdrops that cross the skin barrier and reach the dermis without the need for needles, lesions or any type of damage to the skin tissue,” explains the dermatologist.
In the last phase of this treatment, there is the infusion of active ingredients, with boosters specifically formulated with powerful substances to address a wide variety of skin changes. “We have, for example, specific solutions to illuminate the skin and lighten imperfections (Lightning and Glow), to fight acne and decongest pores (Clear), reduce redness and skin sensitivity (Soothing), promote hydration (Hydrate), regenerate the skin and offer antioxidant protection (Regenerate), fight wrinkles and fine lines (Argireline Complex), firm the skin (Tight) and perform a global anti-aging action, improving the firmness and elasticity of the skin tissue (Growth Factor)”, underlines the doctor.
Fully customizable, the boosters are chosen based on each patient’s needs and can also be combined, in the same session or during treatment, to provide enhanced results. “In addition, we can combine JetPeel with other procedures, such as lasers, always doing it last,” says the doctor.
