While these services are super convenient for replacing traditional devices, the Yamaha design workshop he believes that there is still room for more substantial and tactile interactions that cannot be achieved virtually.
Therefore, the team of creators proposes four prototypes of music devices that work in symbiosis with the mobile phone: TurnT, Winder, MusicLight and RhythmBot.
“When you listen to your favorite song, when you want a sweet backing track before bed, when you want to play a relaxing background sound or when you play the guitar and want some accompaniment to set the beat, how would you like to start? your songs? ” she writes to Yamaha.
TurnT & Winder
Yamaha Design Laboratory’s first product, the TurnT, is a smartphone turntable. Users place the stylus on the phone screen, which acts as a recording, to start playing the music. They can swipe up to change songs or albums and even reposition the stylus. “The step of carefully placing the pen on the record will bring back nostalgia and solemn respect for the music you are about to play,” shares the company.
Winder, on the other hand, is a key designed to function like a music box. When the key is rolled up, playback of the selected song on the smartphone begins. The sound movements are generated based on the vibration of the spring, allowing users to enjoy the unique sound texture. Interaction with the key can also lead to a more intimate musical experience.
Musiclight & Rhythmbot
Moving on to its third product, MusicLight, Yamaha writes: “Listen to music while watching a flame. Light a candle to start playing music on your smartphone. The sound fluctuates slightly as the flame burns and when it goes out, the music fades with a residual glow. Like listening to music around a bonfire, the flame flickers in unison with the sound, creating a rich atmosphere. “
Finally, the RhythmBot is an evolutionary form of metronome that supports artists as they play their instruments. The product is equipped with four small robots, each of which reproduces a unique acoustic sound. The robots can sync with a smartphone and tune in to the beat being played, or even follow the player in real time.
