Understand the risks that low humidity can pose to your health and learn how to take care of yourself during dry weather periods.
Dry weather is a climate phenomenon that has a direct impact on our health. Characterized by low air humidity, it interferes with some sensitive areas of our body, such as the skin, throat, eyes and especially the nose.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the ideal is for the humidity index of the air to be above 40%. The professor of Nursing at the Faculdade Anhanguera, Sônia Mariza, explains that dry weather dries out the respiratory tract, favoring the onset of respiratory diseases.
“Due to the drought, the physical barriers they represent end up allowing the entry of microorganisms that can be harmful to health,” comments the teacher.
Therefore, in climatic conditions like these, health services record a significant increase in people seeking treatment, mainly due to respiratory allergies, such as asthma, bronchitis and allergic rhinitis.
What to do?
During dry periods, it is important to pay attention to your health and, if necessary, seek medical attention. In addition, there are some daily precautions that can help alleviate the discomfort caused by low humidity. The expert has listed some of them below. Check out:
