Are you the type of person who does a little celebratory dance when you taste a dish or dessert that you really like? If so, you are not the only one who enjoys the moment this way. That’s because scientists have discovered that gorillas change their behavior while eating and do something very cute. Learn more about the new research published on the Scientific American website:
Gorillas are buzzing
The research, published in the scientific journal PLOS ONEstudied two groups of gorillas, which lived freely in the western lowland, located in Congo. The researchers noted that they hummed while they ate. They also noted that the sounds and behavior changed depending on the age or sex of the animal.
The animals also sang depending on the food they were enjoying. From what the researchers studied, the sounds became different and louder when they chewed the foods analyzed as their favorites. “Gorilla vocalizations don’t come close to our own, but the sound they make is vaguely musical, and the logical way to call something that sounds like music and is clearly not humming is singing.”explained the publication of American scientist when the discovery is publicized.
It is worth noting that they are not the only species that hums and croons while eating. Chimpanzees and bonobos are also two types of primates that produce musical sounds when they taste a food that they really like.
So, did you enjoy knowing that primates are very similar to us humans?
