São Paulo Fashion Week (SPFW) will take place from 16 to 20 October, the largest fashion event in Latin America, which pays homage to the pioneer of Brazilian fashion, the journalist Queen Guerreiro. In this 58th edition, sustainability will be one of the main themes, presenting creations that use intelligent fabrics, reusing materials and enhancing artisan work.
The image and style specialist, Rafael Flumingamcomments that the occasion will reflect boldness and authenticity, in line with Guerreiro’s ‘Punkgirl’ style.
“The proposal will also bring a fusion between urban and sophisticated styles, deconstructing the sharp cuts of tailoring and incorporating elements such as crochet, knitting, raffia, indigenous fibers, shells, beads, ropes and ties,” explains Flumingnam.
From the catwalks to the streets
Flumingam believes that trends have a shelf life and that the key is to identify those that have lasting appeal. “A trend is always validated by common sense and this response comes with time and acceptance by the public. An example is the fanny pack; when we thought that the accessory had gone out of fashion, a few years ago we were surprised to see the piece in different compositions, ”notes the expert.
For him SPFW is more than a space to launch trends; is a platform that brings together established designers and new talents, allowing them to share their creative visions. This connection has benefited the Brazilian textile industry which, despite having a strong local design, did not have international projection before the 1990s.
“It is essential for fashion professionals to understand the directions of the market and the bets of stylists, allowing them to adapt these new developments to the Brazilian public,” he concludes.
