Making his debut as Creative Director of Leather Goods and Accessories at Bvlgari, Maria Katrantzou he found inspiration in Rome’s rich history and cultural heritage. The new collection, called Calla, pays homage to the iconic Baths of Caracalla, a relic of Roman antiquity that served as a social and cultural center.
These baths, which date back to the 3rd century AD, were revitalized through a significant restoration project supported by Bvlgari in 2015 and 2016, revealing their magnificent polychrome mosaics which now inspire the collection’s design.
The Calla collection takes up the feminine fan shape found in bathroom mosaics, a motif also present in Bvlgari’s Divas Dream line. This design is emblematic in several cultures, evoking the gingko leaf and calla flower, known to symbolize strength, resilience and beauty.
New to the collection
Maria Katrantzou brought a new perspective to Bvlgari leather goods and accessories with pieces that highlight intricate craftsmanship. The Serpenti Sugarloaf bag is an example of this innovative approach, characterized by a quilted nappa silhouette that recalls the brand’s characteristic cabochon cut. The Serpentine Duo bag combines elegance and functionality in its trapezoid shape inspired by the facets of precious stones.
Another highlight is the Ginkgo clutch, which features the Calla motif in a pure, minimalist design. Complementing this is the Calla clutch bag for evening occasions, with intricate gold metal appliqués handcrafted to achieve a flawless finish.
