The National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) has suspended the handling, marketing, advertising and use of manipulated hormone implantspopularly known as “beauty chips”. The resolution was published on Friday 18th Official Journal of the Union (DOU).

According to Anvisa, the suspension came after the Brazilian Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics Associations provided evidence of complications caused by the use of the implants. The preventive measure applies to all compounding pharmacies.
The “chip” is a type of hormone therapy and is usually used for aesthetic purposes, such as weight loss and muscle gain. They were already banned by the Federal Council of Medicine (FMC).
What are the risks of the beauty chip?
Use without medical advice can cause problems such as acne, increased oiliness of the skin, hair loss, increase in hair, changes in the timbre of the voice and even clitoromegaly, or enlargement of the clitoris, as indicated by the Brazilian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism (SBEM).
