Wrinkles, sagging skin and skin texture are the main complaints of mature women. But do anti-aging cosmetics really help with skin aspects after these symptoms have already appeared?
According to dermatologist Dr. Paola Pomerantzeff this is almost impossible. “Today’s anti-aging cosmetics have something in common with those of 20 years ago: their minimal effectiveness against already consolidated aging. Unfortunately, there is not yet a cream capable of reducing sagging skin, eliminating already consolidated wrinkles, significantly stimulating the production of collagen or reversing the ‘Chinese mustache'”, explains the doctor, member of the Brazilian Society of Dermatology.
So don’t believe in miracle creams! This is because anti-aging cosmetics that promise to eliminate wrinkles, firm the skin and restore radiance, unfortunately do not give the expected results. “To do this it is necessary to stimulate collagen through technologies or injectable collagen biostimulators (dermatological procedures carried out in the office). Anyone who has already undergone surgery knows the difference between its results and the use of a cream,” says the doctor.
However, it is important to underline that: when wrinkles and expression lines are not yet present, anti-aging cosmetics are effective in preventing them. “Creams can help prevent aging, but they are not able to reverse it. In most cases, what is recommended, in addition to properly cleansing the skin, is the use of an antioxidant (vitamin C) in the morning before sunscreen (SPF 30 at least),” explains the doctor.
