Zero fat soda? Specialist analysis studies

Despite the calorie reduction of the diet, drinking also has dangerous aspects. Understanding the effects of zero refrigerant

Zero soda can cause binges

Does zero sodaput on weight? Most overweight people are likely to have asked themselves this already. And the answer is a little more complex than one might think.

It is undeniable that these fizzy drinks are full of flavor and therefore intensely consumed by individuals of all ages. It also makes sense that since they have a high level of sugar in their compositions, soft drinks are real villains when it comes to losing body fat. So, the solution found is to bet on calorie-free artificially sweetened products.

However, the strategy may not work. According to the nutritionist, Dr. Marcella Garcez, professor and director of the Brazilian Association of Nutrology (ABRAN), the greatest risk of consuming high amounts of zero soda is to develop a food craving, which can worsen the situation of overweight and obesity.

A study in rats published by the US National Library of Medicine confirms this theory. “It has been found that at least one artificial sweetener (aspartame) can damage a part of the brain that identifies when it’s time to stop eating,” says Dr. Garcez.

Another research released by the entity, this time with human testing, indicated that there is a relationship between weight gain and consumption of artificially sweetened beverages, such as zero soda. According to the doctor, these drinks can cause other health damage as well, such as an increased risk of cancer, cardiovascular disease and kidney problems.

A third study published by the institute revealed an increase in ghrelin in the body of people who consume carbonated drinks. “Ghrelin is a hormone produced mainly by the stomach and intestines, which has the task of stimulating the feeling of hunger when the stomach is empty,” explains the doctor. That is, when levels of this substance are above desirable, the chances of bingeing also increase. Intake of zero soda stimulates the production of this hormone and can cause an increase in calorie consumption throughout the day.

“Although this study did not evaluate the students’ food intake or weight changes after drinking different types of beverages, the increase in ghrelin levels after consuming carbonated beverages (normal, zero, diet, or fizzy) It is plausible that these drinks can cause hunger, increased food consumption and weight gain. And this is cause for concern, “warns the nutritionist.

How to replace zero refrigerant

The healthiest recommendation is to replace all of these drinks with water. However, it is a fact that, from time to time, it is common to want to drink something tastier. In these cases, the most pleasant options for the body are herbal teas and fruit water. “Unsweetened juices, coffee and other liquids can be consumed in moderation,” says Dr. Garcez.

“Another way to change habits and reduce consumption is to notice when you drink more sodas, looking for options that may be more beneficial, such as eating fruit for dessert or betting on tea. Kombucha is also a good option,” he reveals.

But for people who drink sodas every day, opting for zero products is a sensible alternative. “A low-calorie fizzy drink can still be a reasonable choice, as long as you keep an eye on the rest of your diet and your weight.”
