A tumor was suspected, but tests revealed the existence of two uteruses, four ovaries, two cervixes and three kidneys.
A 31-year-old Australian woman discovered that she had five extra organs in her body after experiencing intense abdominal pain during her menstrual period. “It was the worst stomach pain I’ve ever felt in my life,” he told the British paper The Mirror.
In the emergency room, Mel Placanica underwent a series of tests that initially showed the existence of a tumor in her body. The diagnosis was confirmed by a gynecologist who evaluated her initial tests.
Mel Placanica was surprised, after a second round of tests with specialists, by the news that she had two uteruses, four ovaries, two cervixes and three kidneys. He publicized the case on his social networks.
“The moral of the story is that you can’t always trust an exam. An exam doesn’t show everything, otherwise everything would have come out and the exam wouldn’t have lasted that long,” he said.
The doctors’ recommendation was to remove the excess organs. Mel has undergone several surgeries in which one uterus and two ovaries were removed. The two cervices were unified and the extra kidney was retained.
An advanced degree of endometriosis was identified in the removed uterus, which would justify the intense abdominal pain reported by the woman. Endometriosis is a disease in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus.
