With a flight to Australia, Latam inaugurates its longest route

It takes almost 15 hours to travel between Chile and Australia; between Santiago and Sydney there are more than 11 thousand kilometres, in a non-stop journey.

Regardless of which airline you choose, the flight to Australia is a long journey for those leaving Brazil, which does not have a direct flight to Oceania.

Last Sunday, Brazilians gained another option: the direct flight between Chile and Australia, considered the longest route of the Latam group and its third direct route between Chile and Oceania.

Between Santiago and Sydney there are more than 11 thousand kilometres, in a non-stop journey of almost 15 hours, a saving of four hours compared to a flight from Santiago to Sydney with a stopover in Auckland, in neighboring New Zealand.

“With this recovery, the LATAM Airlines Group strengthens connectivity between South America and Oceania, offering more alternatives to travellers,” says María Paz Villasante, Director of Commercial Strategy of the LATAM Airlines Group, in a note sent to Travel by fare.

Operated on Boeing 787-9 aircraft, with a capacity of 300 passengers, flights take place four times a week. From Santiago they depart on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday at 01.40 (local time) and arrive in Sydney at 06.30 (local time).

In Australia, departure takes place on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 12.35pm (local time), while landing in the Chilean capital is scheduled for 11.20am (local time).

The direct route was available between 2019 and 2020, but was suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic and is currently in addition to the direct flights the group operates from Chile to Melbourne (Australia) and Auckland (New Zealand).
