Find out how to choose the most suitable garment for your sporting practice

Wearing clothing with UV protection is a great option for those who want to do physical activity while still remaining protected. The Brazilian Society of Dermatology recommends approximately 15-20 minutes of daily exposure, without sunscreen. As a result, doing physical activity, especially in open spaces, can become a challenge to protect yourself from the sun. But how to choose a suitable piece?

UV protection: fabric types, climate and insects

To choose a protective shirt, keep in mind the type of sport you will be practicing. For example, if you are in a place with forests and a large presence of insects or mosquitoes that transmit diseases, such as dengue fever, it may be best to wear clothing with UV protection and also repellent protection. These are manufactured with a product called Insecta EC50 Permethrinwhich scares away insects in the fabric. In other words, no stings during sports.

Check that UV-protective clothing is made of cotton or polyester, as nylon fabrics can let up to 95% of ultraviolet rays through, making it an unreliable barrier for skin, according to the Society of Dermatology. Cotton and canvas help even more in this case.

Cold or hot?

The weather also affects the athlete’s clothing and performance. Therefore it is interesting to observe whether the fabric is thermal or not. Clothing with thermal protection is more suitable for low temperatures.
