According to the Court’s decision, published by Folha de S.PauloLana promotes “the discredit of scientific methods” and “an immense and irresponsible risk to the health of the population”. The doctor will be able to pay R$ 1,500 of a fine of days if the existence of the disease is denied again and the publications are kept active.
On social media Lana Almeida presents herself as a doctor of “integrative medicine and bioidentical nano-hormonal modulation” and asked her followers to forget about the Pink October campaign to raise awareness of this type of cancer.
“I come to tell you that breast cancer doesn’t exist. So forget Pink October, forget mammograms. Mammograms cause breast inflammation,” she says. Lana had around 10,000 followers on Instagram.
The Inca (National Cancer Institute) defined the content as fake news. The disease accounts for about 30% of all cancer diagnoses in the country, with a forecast of 74,000 new cases per year by 2025, according to Inca.
The Brazilian Society of Mastology (SBM) says the spread of fake news aims to sell miracle cures using manipulated hormones.
In addition to deleting the videos, the court stated that Lana cannot “advertise any cure or alternative method for pathologies.”
