White Sauce (Béchamel) Ingredients:

– 1 tablespoon unsalted butter

– 1 tablespoon(s) of wheat flour, not too full

– 350 ml of boiling milk

– salt to taste

– nutmeg to taste

Airfryer Croque Monsieur ingredients:

– 4 slice(s) of brioche bread, cut about 1.5 cm thick (or sliced ​​bread)

– 4 slice(s) of cooked ham (prefer Royalle ham)

– 6 slice(s) of gruyere (or cheese)

– 50 g of Gruyere cheese, grated

Ingredients FOR THE INGREDIENTS (OPTIONAL):

-oil to taste (or unsalted butter)

PREPARATION:

  1. Start by preparing the béchamel (see preparation). If the white sauce is thinner, it may be necessary to place the Croque Monsieur in a refractory dish suitable for the Airfryer basket. To prevent sticking, lightly grease the baking dish with butter or oil.
  2. Set aside the other ingredients and utensils for the recipe.
  3. The suggested filling quantity can be changed according to your preferences.
  4. Slice and grate cheese according to recipe, if necessary.
  5. Preheat the Airfryer to 180ºC.

PREPARATION:

White sauce (do this step during pre-preparation):

  1. Place the milk in a milk jug and bring to the boil over high heat.
  2. In a pan, over low heat, melt the butter, add the flour and mix until a smooth mixture is obtained.
  3. Gradually add the boiling milk, stirring continuously with a wire whisk to incorporate the ingredients well and avoid the formation of lumps.
  4. Cook over low heat for about 5 minutes, or until the sauce is too thick.
  5. Season with salt and grated nutmeg.
  6. Set aside and return to pre-prep (item 2).

Croque Monsieur in the Airfryer:

  1. Arrange the bread slices on a cutting board, remove the crust from the bread if you prefer.
  2. Spread a thin layer of béchamel inside all the slices.
  3. Place 2 slices of cheese on half of the bread slices and fold them to fit the size of the bread.
  4. Then add 2 slices of ham and another slice of cheese, always adjusting the size.
  5. Cover with the remaining slices of bread.
  6. Spread the béchamel sauce on the sandwiches – on top and on the sides – so that they are completely covered.
  7. Place the sandwiches in the baking tray(s) and in the fryer basket, leaving space between them to allow air circulation.
  8. Place the basket in the drawer and insert it into the Airfryer preheated to 180ºC.
  9. Cook for about 8-10 minutes until the surface is golden.
  10. Depending on the number of portions and the capacity of the equipment, repeat the browning process.

FINALIZATION AND ASSEMBLY:

  1. Remove the croque monsieur from the fryer and serve immediately.
