Nobody likes to dust often.
What’s more unpleasant than waking up the next morning after spring cleaning and finding that there are already specks of dust on the cabinets that you polished to a shine yesterday?
Unfortunately, dust is an inevitable part of our lives. But there are tricks that can prevent it from settling on surfaces: We suggest making a homemade spray which works better than most commercial products. And you know which is the best? The ingredients for this will definitely be found in your kitchen!
You will need:
- Spray
- White vinegar 9%
- Water (preferably distilled)
- extra virgin olive oil
- Essential oils (optional)
How to make dust spray
First step: mix
Pour half a cup of 9% white vinegar, two cups of warm water, and a quarter cup of olive oil into a spray bottle. Shake until ingredients are combined.
Second step: flavor
Add a few drops of your favorite essential oils to the bottle (we recommend something refreshing, like lemon, associated with cleanliness and freshness, or relaxing lavender). Skip this step if you prefer unscented cleaning products.

How to use dust spray
Wipe the surface with a dry microfiber cloth to remove dust. Spray the mixture onto the surface and wipe it with another clean microfiber cloth. Benefit: there is now a barrier on the shelf that will prevent dust from settling.
How to store dust spray
Store the spray bottle containing the solution in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight. As the spray does not contain preservatives, renew it every month: throw away the old one and prepare a new one.
Where can you use dust spray?
It is suitable for all surfaces except fabric. If you are unsure about something, test the spray on a small, inconspicuous area.

- Change your bed linen once every two weeks, or better yet, once a week.
- Get a drying machine – unlike a washing machine, it “removes” almost all the dust from things.
- Consider an air washer – it will remove not only dust from it, but also unpleasant odors.
- Store seasonal clothes in covers and bags – this will prevent lint from turning to dust.
