The renowned pastry chef made his debut as a judge on the first MasterChef dedicated exclusively to pastry making in Brazil
The hit reality show MasterChef Brazil won an unprecedented edition to celebrate the program’s 10 years on air. In this new season, the series presents, for the first time, 12 dessert experts, who will have to use creativity and technical skills to overcome the obstacles of the competition, until they win the much desired trophies and cash prizes of the MasterChef Confectionery.
And it is Diego Lozano who, together with Erick Jacquin, Helena Rizzo and Henrique Fogaça, takes on this role of juror. “Representing pastry on such a major program is a dream come true,” he describes of the reality show that premiered on November 22.
A unique career opportunity
With a busy schedule, Diego confesses that what attracted him to participate in the program was the fact that the confectionery reality show idea had a similar edition only in Australia. “In the whole world, it was just there. And this is the second edition here in Brazil that talks about pastry, which is my life, it’s what I’ve been doing for years. I’m sure it will be incredible for the market, “underlines Diego.
Regarding the invitation to participate in the reality show, the chef specifies that it was born after discussions with the program director, Marisa. “We sat down, talked and I showed my interest. After many meetings with the entire management of the Band, we signed the contract”, he says.
Promotion of haute patisserie
Diego believes that audiences will be fascinated by discovering the complexity and beauty of this segment. “Pastry making is still seen as a sub-profession. You start very informally, without studying. In the program we have excellent professionals who show how complex, beautiful and delicious this universe is.”
He also sees the format as an opportunity to use his vast experience to judge professionals based on their talent and knowledge. “My role as a judge is to push them to the max. I know their technical ability, but a program like this involves not only technical ability, but also psychological issues. My role is to encourage them and help them do better.”
Responsibility
The chef also recognizes the exposure the program will bring to his career. “I’m sure it’s something very big, and everything big has its weight. There will be those who admire my work and others who won’t like me for different reasons. But it’s part of this exhibition and I’m ready for it” , he concludes.
