5 tips to balance your end-of-year diet

Make the most of the Christmas holidays with simple strategies for your well-being

The end of the year is full of incredible encounters and flavours, but also a period that invites us to pay attention to excesses. Luckily, it’s super possible to enjoy it without neglecting your health. With some conscious choices and planning, you can enjoy the delights of the season with balance. Find out now how to keep your healthy habits up to date!

1. Make a meal plan

Márcia Rodrigues, coordinator of the Nutrition course at the Faculdade Anhanguera, recommends maintaining the food plan even at the end of the year. “While travel and parties can be important moments, the key to maintaining a balanced diet is organization. Before traveling or attending a party, review the food and drinks that will be available and decide on healthy choices,” he advises.

A good option, if possible, is to bring nutritious snacks such as fruitoil seeds (chestnuts, walnuts, almonds, etc.) or cereal bars for those moments when hunger strikes. This way you avoid less healthy options that are usually easier to find.

Drinking water between drinks helps keep your body hydrated and reduces the effects of dehydration.

2. Balance your food consumption

When it comes to parties, one of the biggest challenges is the excess of high-calorie foods, such as sweets and fried foods. The teacher suggests adopting a moderation strategy. “You don’t need to completely limit your holiday foods, but rather control them. One tip is to use smaller portions and balance your choices with more nutritious foods, such as salads, vegetables and lean proteins,” she explains. This helps maintain a balance between enjoying the meal and maintaining a healthy diet.

3. Keep your body hydrated

During the holidays it is common to consume alcoholic drinks which, in addition to being high-calorie, can dehydrate the body. The specialist recommends constant hydration, especially between alcoholic drink and another. “Drinking water between doses of alcohol helps reduce alcohol consumption and prevents dehydration. Additionally, alcoholic beverages can increase your appetite, so moderation is essential,” he explains.

4. Avoid skipping meals while traveling

For travelers, maintaining a healthy diet can be even more challenging, especially with the availability of fast, nutrient-poor foods. Márcia recommends making smart choices at local restaurants or supermarkets.

“Opt for grilled or roasted dishes, avoid fried foods and choosing side dishes such as vegetables is a way to maintain a healthy diet even when you are away from home. If possible, try to maintain regular meal times and avoid skipping meals, which can lead to impulsive and less healthy food choices.”

5. Don’t stop eating what you like

Finally, the professional underlines the importance of not completely depriving yourself of the typical foods of holidays and travel. “THE eat healthy It’s not about extreme restrictions, but rather about balance and conscious choices. Enjoy the celebrations, but always try to maintain a balance between hyper-palatable foods and lighter, more nutritious options.”
