This is a great option for those who wish to achieve a naturally rejuvenated face as the new year begins.
Summary
The face lift is one of the most sought after aesthetic procedures. New techniques guarantee natural and long-lasting results.
Carrying out a change in appearance or cosmetic surgery is the desire of many for New Year’s Eve. And among the most sought-after interventions is the face lift, which, thanks to the emergence of techniques that guarantee extremely effective and natural results, remains on the podium of plastic surgery interventions.
“The face lift aims to attenuate wrinkles, sagging and folds and to recover the contours of the face to leave the face rested, healthy and as natural as possible, without looking like it has been operated on,” says plastic surgeon Beatriz Lassance, member of the Brazilian Society Council of Plastic surgery.
However, although the facelift is already a well-known procedure, many people still have doubts about the surgery. So, to help in such cases, a team of experts has answered the main questions about face lift.
What has changed in the facelift?
According to plastic surgeon Paolo Rubez, full member of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery (SBCP) and the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS), the main point is that, previously, the face lift only acted on the skin layer of the face, relaxing the flaccid tissue, but favoring artificial, plasticized and stigmatized results.
“Now we work with new techniques such as the Deep Plane Facelift, which also repositions the facial muscles, with more effective, natural and long-lasting results,” explains the doctor.
What is the ideal age for a facelift?
There is no right age to undergo the procedure. “Once the signs of aging start to make you uncomfortable in some way, it’s time to look for a facelift or other cosmetic procedures that make you feel good about your appearance. In general, a face lift is recommended for patients who already have moderate or severe sagging,” underlines Beatriz Lassance.
But a doctor’s recommendation is essential. “Radiofrequency, microneedling and microfocused ultrasound are technologies that work for mild cases, but cannot be compared to, for example, a face lift. And in the case of injectables it is better to be even more careful: there is a point at which surgery will be necessary, because an excess of fillers will result in an artificial face”, explains Paolo Rubez.
What happens during surgery?
Performed under anesthesia, the procedure is performed using incisions that will be made according to the type of facelift ideal for each patient, allowing the doctor to reposition the skin, muscles and tissues necessary to achieve the best result in a natural way. “The operation can last from 3 to 6 hours, depending on the structures to be treated,” explains Beatriz Lassance.
What do the scars look like from the procedure?
The shape and visibility of the scar will depend on the technique adopted by the doctor to perform the facelift, which will be chosen based on the patient’s interests. “Patients don’t want anyone to know they’ve had a facelift. So, the scars are usually placed near the hairline or following the fold of the ears, so that they are not visible. In this way, after the operation, the scars are well hidden and the results are natural,” explains Beatriz Lassance.
How is the post-operative period?
As with any surgery, it is normal to experience swelling and redness on the face postoperatively, which improves within 2 to 3 weeks. But it is not common for there to be pain after surgery. “The patient must remain at relative rest for 2 or 3 weeks and stay away from physical activities for 30 days. Additionally, you should avoid the sun for at least 3 months. Alcohol consumption and smoking should also be stopped, both for recovery and for healing the damage,” says Paolo Rubez.
When do results start appearing?
You will usually be able to see small changes in the appearance of your face immediately after the procedure. “However, the results will only be visible after the reduction of swelling and bruising, which tend to disappear, on average, after a week after surgery,” warns Beatriz Lassance.
How much does the procedure cost?
“The cost of a facelift varies based on several factors, including the patient’s degree of sagging, the surgeon who will perform the surgery and the location where the surgery will be performed. The ideal therefore is that you talk to your doctor to check the cost of the method best suited to your case”, concludes Beatriz.
