From Chanel to Saint Laurent: the first exhibition focused on fashion opens at the Louvre Museum

The Louvre Museum in Paris opens its doors to an exciting new exhibition, “Louvre Couture: Objects of Art, Objects of Fashion”, which will run from January 24 to July 21, 2025. For the first time, the institution dedicates a Exclusive fashion exhibition, bringing together iconic pieces from major brands and designers such as Chanel, Dior, Givenchy, Balenciaga, Fendi, Saint Laurent, among others.

With a space of almost 9 thousand square meters, the exhibition features around one hundred looks and accessories, presenting a fascinating dialogue between the museum’s classic collection and fashion. The pieces connect to the history of decorative arts and reveal how fashion has always been intertwined with different art forms over the centuries.

Although the Louvre does not have a specific clothing collection, it has always maintained a close relationship with fashion. The curatorship, led by Olivier Gabetand the scenography of Nathalie Crinière explore this connection, covering topics such as Byzantium, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and, finally, the opulent apartments of Napoleon IIIwhere the costumes match the luxurious furnishings.
