A word, an smell or a sound. Sometimes it is all that is enough to trigger an old memory and make the body react with fear, anguish or arrest, even if the threat has already passed. This is because the trauma, although silent, remains recorded in the brain and body. And when not treated, they can compromise mental health, personal relationships and daily decisions.
Psychologist Cristian Pertuusi, an EMDR (desensitization and portment through eye movements), explains that trauma is not only generated by great tragedies. Apparently “simple” situations such as constant criticisms, school bullying, emotional abandonment or separations can also leave deep brands.

EMDR therapy to treat trauma
EMDR therapy was one of the most effective tools in trauma treatment. Created in the United States and validated by institutions such as the World Health Organization (WHO), it acts directly on traumatic memories through bilateral stimuli such as guided ocular movements, sounds or alternative touches.
