Cold training can be dangerous due to muscle rigidity. The execution of the heating often reduces the risk of injuries
Practicing physical activity can be even more demanding during the cold. This is because, with low temperatures, the body requires more than our metabolism to remain hot and the muscles tend to be rigid. Therefore, heating before winter training is essential to prevent injuries.
Heating reduces the possibilities of injuries
The coordinator of the AnaHanguera College physical education course, Professor Audrei Fortunato Miqualote, explains that the most common problems of this period of the year are injuries such as muscle distances and traits, especially in the lower limbs.
“In autumn and winter, the heating of the body becomes even more important, since it takes time to obtain the flexibility necessary for the ideal breadth of the movements when we are at low temperatures,” says the educator.
According to Audrei, the cardiorespiratory frequency gains the rhythm during the heat, which stimulates blood circulation (which usually worsens in winter) and prepares the muscles for intense activities, reducing the possibilities of injuries.
“To know the ideal time to start the exercises, just look if the breath and the heartbeat. If they are higher than the rest period, then we can start,” explains the teacher. “The preparation must be gradual, so as not to request a large part of the cold body and avoid the possibilities of injuries and leaves,” he continues.
The professional says that 10 minutes of heating are enough before performing any sport. The frequent heating practice increases joint mobility and speed in the release of energy in the body and accelerates the nerve impulses that facilitate movement. “This step is essential to obtain results without health damage,” adds Audrei.
Care before starting
Winter is a great season to abandon the sedentary lifestyle. However, for people who are not often exercised, the teacher warns that it is necessary to be aware of some factors before carrying out sporadic activities and therefore avoid injuries, such as physical fitness.
“We recommend talking to a physical education professional before starting these activities and, in cold or open areas, with wind flows, it is important to protect you with warm comfort,” he concludes.
