Human health: why do this cure still remain?

It is time to change this scenario and pay more attention to the body itself

The doctor warns the impacts of negligence on male health and guide on how to change this behavior with simple attitudes

Despite the progress in preventive medicine and greater access to information, many men still neglect their health. According to data from the Ministry of Health, they live, on average, seven years less than women in Brazil and one of the most decisive factors for this difference is the resistance in the search for medical care in a preventive way.

According to Marcus Tionee, a doctor from the Urology area of Amarsaúde, a network of partners of the paper of all, this resistance is often linked to cultural constructions that associate masculinity with the invulnerability and the fear of seem fragile still prevents many Brazilians from seeking medical help.

“There is a rooted stigma according to which man cannot show fragility. Therefore, many seek help only when the symptoms are unbearable and this can delay diagnosis and compromise the treatment”, explains Sionee. The information from the reference center for human health of San Paolo indicate that 7 out of 10 men seek a doctor only after insistence from family members and more than half achieves the office with diseases already in advanced phases.

Common diseases that influence human health

According to the doctor, many diseases that reach men could be prevented or treated in a more effective way if the treatments began soon. Among the main diseases, we distinguish ourselves:

  • Arterial hypertension, silent and dangerous heart disease;
  • Diabetes, which can lead to loss of vision, renal failure and amputations;
  • Prostate cancer, one of the most among men’s accidents;
  • Benign prostate hypertrophy, characterized by an increase in prostate and common with aging;
  • Intestinal diseases, which are often ignored by shame or disinformation.

The absence of regular checks, according to Sionee, can have serious consequences. “The main risk is the worsening of diseases. Many of them at the beginning are silent, but they evolve quickly. This can lead to disabling and even early death”, warns the professional.

The ignored symptoms need attention

In addition to the resistance in search of help, men also tend to minimize important symptoms. According to the doctor, constant tiredness, weight loss for no apparent reason, urinary or intestinal difficulties and changes in sexual life are signs of alert that deserve attention. “These symptoms can indicate serious problems and first the professionals investigate them, the greater the possibility of success in the treatment,” he explains.

To start changing this scenario, Marcus sion recommends that people adopt basic treatments as a way to prevent diseases and promote well -being. These include a balanced diet, physical activity, perform medical checks every year and observe the signs of the body to seek medical help from any anomaly. But also, the doctor highlights male health care after 40 years:

  1. Annual check-up with the general practitioner or urologist Monitor blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, liver and renal function, in order to identify the first signs of diseases such as diabetes, dyslipidemia, anemia, among others.
  2. Prostate examination (rectal and touch psa), Important for the monitoring of prostate cancer;
  3. Electrocardiogram and effort test (ergometric) Evaluate cardiovascular health, especially if there is a family history;
  4. Colonoscopy, Indicated from the age of 45 or before, if there is a family history of colon cancer -retto.

Even a father who loves his children takes care

For Sione, the family incentive can be a decisive factor in the change of behavior. “Wife, children and friends play an important role in this process. Sharing stories, showing real examples and supporting man to take the first step can make a difference,” he says.

With the arrival of Father’s Day, the doctor leaves a message: “I lost my father for many years. When you look at your children and your wife, you think you can avoid this feeling of loss. Most of the diseases can be healed when diagnosed soon. Value that loves you and use that love to take more care than yourself.”
