The struggle of the singer and entrepreneur Gil against Colon -Cetto cancer has moved the whole Brazil. The artist, who died on July 20, attracted the attention of the population on a recent phenomenon: the growth of cases of disease in people under the age of 50. Colon -retto carcinoma is the most common third in Brazil, without considering non -melanoma skin tumors. Only this year, 45,630 cases must be diagnosed, most of the elderly.

Fiber -rich foods play an important role in the support of preventing these tumors, which develop from genetic mutations of benign lesions – such as polyps – in the large intestine, including the colon and straight.

1. Why have fiber foods have an important function in supporting the prevention of intestinal tumors?
“The fibers accelerate intestinal transit, reducing the contact of substances that stimulate the emergence of cancer with the intestinal walls. They also have the anti-inflammatory effect and modulate the intestinal microbiota, which is a set of bacteria, viruses, funds and other microorganisms that inhabit our body. Therefore, they provide less carcinogenic environment.”The expert underlined.
2. What are fiber -rich foods?
“The main sources of fiber are fruit, vegetables, seeds, whole grains and oil seeds. The National Cancer Institute (Inca) recommends consuming 25-30 grams of fiber per day – about five portions of fruit and vegetables. Incvide recommends at least three portions of whole grains per day.”quoted.
3. In addition to the consumption of fiber, what are other preventive measures of colon cancer -retto?
