Blacksmith: how to use it to create custom projects

Take a look at the tips from the experts to take advantage of the good solutions of this versatile and efficient option in creating environments of different styles

Perfect for composing industrial style projects, the blacksmith adds functionality, solves project problems and produces unique effects in environments.

Trend in interior architecture, it brings a versatility that, although it is a trademark of the industrial style, presents many options that can appear in other architectural proposals, which combine a color palette and different thicknesses.

To help you discover how to use the blacksmith to create custom projects, the architect Ana Cristina Emrich and the interior designer Juliana Durando, in front of the office JADE Architecture and Designgive interesting tips and suggestions.

Versatility

According to professionals, a thicker, black metal is ideal for industrial style, while a thin cut with brass plating or gold paint evokes a classic aesthetic. But, in most cases, the blacksmith is not only used for looks. The material also solves problems related to the space available in the project.

“In our projects we already use it as a structure for woodworking, in the design of furniture such as sideboards, drink trolleys, coffee tables and shelves, with built-in lighting, which acts as a lamp, among many others”, reveals architect Ana Cristina.

According to the duo Jade Architecture and Design, there is no limit to the use of blacksmiths. It can be present in all environments, from the entrance, on shelves and sideboards; in the living room, on tables or coffee tables; and also the service area, carrying out the design of a rod to support the ironed garments.

Another great advantage of this material is its versatility, which allows it to be easily combined with different elements. “It all depends on the concept of the project. It can work with light or dark wood, with stone or with more rustic coatings,” they say.

The same colors of metallic paints present an immense range of possibilities. Although black has the best value for money, gold, bronze and gray are equally interesting trends, ”Juliana points out.

Pay attention to the budget

Despite this, attention must be paid to the final value of the project, as the sawmill can significantly affect the financial outlay of the residents.

One way to avoid going over your budget is to do it apply black paint which, in addition to lowering costs, is a good alternative for those who want personalized furnishings and details, but do not want to invest in pieces signed by great designers. Therefore, there is no need to give up on exclusive design or go any further balance.

A good option is to combine the locksmith’s workshop with the woodworking shop to cut costs, as you can create cleaner and lighter shelves. With no locker boxes and just shelves, the value of the locksmith’s items tends to decrease. Furthermore, the blend of the two elements is perfect to guarantee a unique proposal, full of personality.

Joinery combined with joinery

The combination of metal and wood is common, for example, in private libraries. However, it is very important to pay attention to the weight of the books before specifying the thickness of the sawmill.

To ensure that the shelf really holds up to the volume of items, the experts’ recommendation is to consider a safety margin in case of change of use over time or even overload of copies, going beyond what was initially foreseen.

When it comes to thickness, the key is to understand how the furniture will be used. On wide benches, 30 x 30 mm metal can be used to support the load. In smaller pieces of furniture it is already possible to use 15 x 15 mm. On narrow shelves it is possible to carry out the production with 20 x 20 mm, always respecting the weight of what will be placed on each of them.
