Recent searches exploit how minor exercises adjustments can affect muscle activation

One of the basic exercises for the training of the triceps are the classic elbow extensions in the upper pulley or simply the triceps in the pulley. This exercise can be performed with a pronounced, supported or neutral imprint. In other words, we can put the palms facing down, on or inside, respectively.

The pronate and neutral footprints are the most common in this exercise, but there have always been some disputes on the use of the supine imprint. Many claim that it allows us to emphasize the long head of the triceps.

By saying “emphasizing”, we do not refer to isolation, but to direct a little more than the effort to this specific head, involving the other two.

In the past, the use of the supported imprint has already been questioned for two main reasons:

  • Just as the biceps is anchored to the radio and can make him “turn” on the Ulna to supine the forearm, the triceps, established in the ulna which remains motionless during the movement, are not influenced by this action.
  • The imprint on sustained, in turn, tends to be uncomfortable and requires greater strength of the forearm muscles to perform the triceps in the pulley, which can become a limiting factor rather than the triceps itself.

However, recent research leads to new elements that invite to reconsider these points. Understand if the type of imprint really influences the triceps during the exercise.
