The billionaire behind Project Blueprint radicalizes the routine to “rejuvenate” – with a plant-based diet, dozens of procedures and many scientific controversies
The billionaire Bryan Johnson48 years old, he has become known throughout the world for his personal – and controversial – rejuvenation project. His stated goal is to have his organs function as if he were 18 forever. To achieve this goal, it invests approximately $2 million per year in a meticulous routine of daily tests, measurements and adjustments.
Who is Bryan Johnson?
Born in Utahin the United States, Bryan became a billionaire by selling his payment gateway company, Braintree Venmofor the PayPal. In 2013 he earned around $800 million (the equivalent of R$4.3 billion).
In 2021, the tycoon revealed, on his channel YouTubethat his lifestyle still caused him several health problems, such as stress and being overweight. With this in mind, he launched the Blueprint Project, with the aim of dedicating five hours of his day to training, constant exams and procedures that improve his “biological age”. He claims that biomarkers have improved, although experts point out that these parameters are controversial.
Unusual procedures
To achieve his goal of keeping his body “forever young,” Johnson, who calls himself a “biohacker“, has a team of professionals who put the longevity protocol into practice. Among the most controversial procedures performed by him are:
-
Transfusions and plasma
In 2023 it carried out the “world’s first multigenerational plasma exchange”. Brian, your son, Talmageand his father, Richardthey drained a liter of blood to extract red and white blood cells, platelets and plasma. Two months later, he abandoned the practice seeing no benefit.
-
Abulmin and liquid gold
In 2024, Bryan removed blood plasma from his body and replaced it with albumin, in a bag he called “liquid gold”. According to him, the technique aimed to remove unnatural pollutants from the body, such as microplastics.
-
Hypercontrolled diet
Johnson eliminates meat and follows a 100% plant-based menu, maintaining around 130g of protein per day (lentils, chickpeas, peas, edamame), as well as collagen and essential amino acids. He does intermittent fasting, finishing his last meal around 11am and going to sleep at 8.30pm. It says to ingest 1,977 kcal per day to keep body fat between 5% and 6%.
What does science show?
To some, Johnson is a visionary “biohacker” testing the limits of biology. For others he is just an eccentric with aging problems. What science highlights, so far, is that there is no consensus on whether these procedures actually promote rejuvenation.
It’s a fact that basic habits are still the most important: getting regular sleep, strength and cardio training, eating a healthy diet, managing stress, and getting regular exams are the key to a quality life. It is worth noting that, before copying expensive and invasive practices, it is essential to evaluate the scientific evidence and risks with qualified professionals.
