SPFW: meeting the ex-waiter and other stories about debut models

THE SPFW, which is in its 60th edition, which will end on the 20th, there are top models returning to the catwalks, there are celebrities, there are influencers and even newcomers, who didn’t always imagine taking part in a fashion show.

Well, meet three of these newcomers to the world of fashion. One of them is a former waiter and former bricklayer’s assistant. There is also the model who won “The Look Of The Year” competition in 2023, he revealed Gisele Bundchen. Another new face is the daughter of a blind man and a day laborer. Former waiter

Debuting on the SPFW runways, Expedito, 22, attracted attention at João Pimenta’s presentation. At Maceió, the handsome man will also model for other brands such as Handred, Foz and Rafael Caetano during SPFW.

“Five years ago I was working as a waiter in Maceió. A scout approached me when I sat at his table. That’s how it all started. I went through a few agencies until I modeled for the first time in an event in the Northeast, the DFB in 2025, and now I’m here at SPFW, firmly continuing my dream of being a successful model,” he celebrates.

“Before I was here, I was a motorcycle courier, a street vendor, a construction worker, a waiter, a salesman… I was many things. I try to represent in my social life people who never give up on their dreams, I know what it means to be a young black man from a dangerous suburb and how difficult it is to achieve goals,” he reinforced.

Competition winner

Another highlight, Nico Frazão, from São Luís, attracts attention, making his debut in this edition of São Paulo Fashion Week.

The 16-year-old left Maranhão after revealing herself in fashion when she was the winner of the same competition that revealed Gisele Bündchen, the “The look of the year”in 2023.

Nico has emerged and appears among the bets of Joy Management, an agency that has revealed top models such as Lais Ribeiro, made his debut on Gloria Coelho’s catwalk, and is an expected presence at the presentation of other brands such as Cria Costura.

Eating pizza

Among the models making their debut in this edition of São Paulo Fashion Week, Isabel Alves also stands out. The 19-year-old girl born in Ibipitanga, Bahia, took to the catwalk of the event for the first time.

Represented by the prestigious WAY Model, with top models such as Carol Trentini, Alessandra Ambrósio and Candice Swanepoel, Isabel recently moved to Sao Paulo and debuted in style: this week is divided between several presentations for brands such as Flavia Aranha, SAU, Fauve, Cria Costura and Gloria Coelho.

“Since I was little, I always wanted to be able to repay all the efforts my parents made for me. I am the daughter of Cida, who does housework, and Nelson, my father, who is visually impaired. I left home early to try to repay everything they did for me and that’s how I ended up finding a modeling career,” she says.

“At 17, after finishing high school, I went to live in Salvador to study and did three semesters of speech therapy at UFBA,” he recalls. “One day, I was eating a pizza with a friend from the course, when they approached me and asked me if I was a model. That’s how it all started. At first I was scared by all this sudden change, unsure what to do. I was working as a CLT and studying at the same time, I had a very demanding routine. In the end I decided to pursue this career, I left university, I resigned and I came to Sao Paulo to work as a model,” she explained. remembered.
