Virginia dives face first into the ice. What are the advantages?

Virginia Fonseca showed her fans last Friday, the 17th, a very popular skin care ritual among celebrities: immersing your face in a bowl of ice. The influencer remained for a few seconds with her face frozen and warned: “It burns, see!”

Among the artists expert in this practice are Carolina Dieckmann, Jade Picon and Mariana Rios.

But are there really benefits for the skin when using the resource?

According to medical aesthetics specialist Dr. Fernanda Nichelle, icing the skin is an ancient technique that continues to be popular as it brings proven results.

“You can carry out the procedure by applying ice wrapped in a cotton fabric directly to the face, using light circular movements, or by immersing the face in a bowl of very cold water for a few seconds, repeating the operation a few times,” he advises.

The professional warns that direct and prolonged contact of ice with the skin can cause burns. Therefore, it is best to always use protection between the ice and your face. The effectiveness of the method is linked to the body’s physiological response to the cold.

“Cooling causes vasoconstriction, which is the temporary narrowing of blood vessels and closing of pores, which helps reduce facial swelling,” he explains.

The ideal, according to the expert, is to quickly immerse your face in ice water five-six times, preferably in the morning, as soon as you wake up, or before putting on makeup. “This practice helps to even out skin tone, reduce dark circles, give more luminosity and prolong the effect of makeup,” he adds.

Dr. Fernanda emphasizes that any excess can be harmful. “Respect the sensitivity of your skin and enjoy the benefits of the ritual in complete safety,” he concludes.
