What science knows about yawning

Although yawning seems simple, its cause continues to intrigue scientists. It is known that it manifests itself in different situations: when we are tired, bored, anxious, stressed, when we see someone yawning, with changes in altitude and even during physical activities. This reflex is controlled involuntarily by the hypothalamus, but it can also be caused consciously, just think about it.

Yawning is the body’s reflex to stay awake. It appears when we are sleepy, bored or doing repetitive tasks. During training it can signal that the body needs rest or that it is under stress. Improving sleep and reducing anxiety can help reduce the frequency of this reflex.

3. Overheating

Exercise increases body and brain temperature. Yawning helps release heat and cool your brain by breathing in fresh air and moving your facial muscles. This process improves cognitive functioning and maintains concentration during activity.

When does yawning deserve medical attention?

If you feel fine and yawning occurs sporadically, there is no reason to worry. The body is just trying to balance its temperature or maintain concentration.
