Create your own electric repellent refill with only 3 reais

THE high prices has left several products uninviting or even non-existent in the Brazilian house and one of them is the insecticide. To solve this problem, we will teach you how to create a homemade repellent refillfor your electric repellent, which will cost you just over three reais. Watch!

How to make a homemade repellent

The materials needed to make the repellent at home are:

  • 1 liter of Cereal Alcohol Base (you can easily find it on the internet)

  • 200 ml of pure Citronella Oil

  • 1 empty bottle for electric repellent (we used one of 35ml)

The first step (if the seal cannot be removed completely) is to remove the toothpick from the refill e add ⅘ of grain alcohol base into the empty container. In sequence, top up with another ⅕ of pure lemongrass oilas pictured.

It is not recommended to use lemongrass alone, as the effect will not be the same.

The second step is just to mix! That is, shake the ingredients well into your bottle, being careful not to spill it.

In the end, put the toothpick back. Your the repellent is ready to be reconnected and you can say goodbye to the bugs! Performance is great, very similar to the original product. The mixture changes color slightly, but don’t worry as this is normal.

In the container with the darker mix, show what it looks like after 4 days of use.

Understanding the economics of the product

In this case we buy 1 liter of cereal oil for a value of about thirty reais and pure lemongrass oil, we spend thirty reais every 100 ml. We bought these products on the internet and the shipping was also around thirty reais. As for the bottle, we used the original electric repellent which was already out of stock, that is, we didn’t spend anything more.

In short: BRL 30 (alcohol) + BRL 60 (lemongrass) + BRL 30 (shipping) = BRL 120.00.

Taking into account that the refill bottle contains 35ml of product, the bill is easy. Just add the liquid values (mixture) and divide by the bottle value:

  • 1 liter of alcohol + 200 ml of oil = 1,200 ml
  • 1.200ml (mixture) ÷ 35ml (bottle) = 33 bottles of product (from)

So, now just calculate the value:

BRL 120.00 (total cost) ÷ 33 (income) = 3 reais!

Some almanacs took the test in their homes and shared their experiences with us:

“A base of mineral oil, cloves and cinnamon is also fine! And it leaves a really pleasant scent.”said Alexandre Abreu on our TikTok.

“And above all, it is NOT toxic”comments Helga in our instagram.

Rosangela Lima made another very interesting comment on our Facebook page:

“It must be oil-based, otherwise the wick will flake.”

What to do if the original toothpick breaks or falls apart

In fact, over time, the central wick (wick) wears out easily over time, so we did an experiment by replacing the wick with those sticks used to flavor environments.

The result was that the replacement went very well, but it is necessary to break it into 3-4 pieces to insert inside the container and turn them upside down every 2 days so that it does not burn too much. Another interesting thing we observed is that the consumption of the liquid, in this case, was higher, in exchange for a more intense aroma.

Does this small mixture with alcohol cause the device to ignite?

Quick answer: No!

The explanation is that these electro-repellent devices reach a maximum temperature of 130 ºC, but the temperature level required for alcohol self-ignition is at least 360 ºC. So rest assured.

Also, for alcohol to “naturally” ignite, it must come into contact with oxygen in the air and, as we know, the most natural thing to happen in these cases is for the alcohol to simply evaporate.
