The lemon and macaroon trifle – a queen’s honor cake created by an English woman – was the winner of a popular competition
With the death of Queen Elizabeth at the age of 96, this Thursday (8), at Balmoral Castle, Scotland, not only the UK, but the whole world mourns her departure and remembers her trajectory.
The monarch completed seven decades of reign in June of this year, a period considered record for the stay of a queen of the british crown. oh ‘platinum jubilee‘, an event to celebrate these 70 years, lasted four days and featured a military parade, special celebrations, as well as an outdoor lunch, and took thousands of Britons to the streets.
Among the various dishes chosen to be served to the population, there was the English soup with lemon and macaroons – considered the official dessert of the event. The dessert, consisting of sponge cake, cream and whipped cream, was chosen in an amateur competition held by Buckingham Palace in late 2021. The goal was to find an easy-to-make delicacy that was popular locally. The English Jemma Melvin, author of the recipe, was awarded for having succeeded in arriving at a delicate dessert, which enchanted the whole world.
